In general, AWF continues to appreciate the access to Planet Action’s catalogue of images. The GIS team is working to extract the land use features from the data now. As a next step, we will be employing decision support tools which are presently being developed by AWF and partners in the Virunga Massif of Uganda and Rwanda (which is home to the endangered mountain gorillas). In particular we expect to assimilate and utilize a template of data inputs/sources which will incorporate historical-current-future climate, vegetation, landform, time series of human and wildlife populations, and possibly other types of data. It is expected that this framework will also help us and our partner conservation managers to visualize current and modeled future climates and then look to see how conditions around points of interest such as wildlife populations and villages/fields may be affected.

So all in all, we’re progressing as expected.
