Progress:
Spot satellite images have being provided and are under analysis to see the forest where the chimpanzees live, illegal logging, and areas of vegetation bordering villages and access roads. The goal is to monitor for a minimum of one year the diet, habitat use, group dynamics, nesting and interactions of released chimpanzees with wild ones.
Context:
Also, chimpanzees are among the most threatened primates in Africa. Several synergistic factors have led to the decrease in chimpanzee populations across Africa and some of the most salient threats include hunting, habitat loss and degradation due to industrialized logging and human population growth, disease, and climate change. Even in Gabon and Congo, widely considered stronghold countries for chimpanzees, populations are declining.
