Newsletter December 2010 Editorial

The PA team was in Cancun and happy to see many NGOs accomplishing so much with imagery and GIS technologies. We are currently working on how we can better respond to more complex requests coming from the projects we support and intend to provide added value imagery services and expertise as well as training in the coming months.

With UNESCO and various space partners, we were part of a poster exhibition presenting how satellite imagery is an essential component in the protection of World Heritage Sites. UNESCO also prepared educational materials and invited local Mexican schools to visit the exhibit on the busy Parca de las Palapas in Cancun city center. The inauguration included an enthusiastic speech by Cancun municipal President …. and UNESCO Deputy Science Education Director, Ms Gretchen Kalonji. We are looking forward to seeing this UNESCO poster show on the road next year for the UN Year of Forests.

Planet Action is at a turning point and has an ambitious roadmap for 2011. As you can see, we have introduced a new logo and will be updating our communications materials in the coming weeks.

Please consult our website regularly and check out factsheets and feedback reports from projects. And as always, stay in touch with the PA team!

Have a great holiday season and we look forward
to an inspiring UN Year of Forests in 2011.
