Newsletter October 2010 Editorial

The Planet Action team is happy to present our Autumn newsletter! In this issue, we are providing important information about REDD+, the major issue to be discussed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun at the end of the year. We are particularly attentive to these negotiations as satellite imagery will be central to the MRV (measuring, reporting, verifying) systems to be implemented in the near future. Many projects supported by Planet Action are working on REDD+ methodologies. Imagery is proving to be valuable, not only in tracking deforestation over time, but also in determining biomass levels and forest degradation.

Our partner, ESRI held its annual user's conference in San Diego. Once again, this major event was an opportunity to meet up with NGOs, partners, and new potential participants in the PA initiative. The ESRI Francophone Conference in Versailles was also a fantastic chance for Planet Action to present results and feedback from project managers on the ground.

Please help us spread the word about Planet Action. We have issued another Call for Projects and we encourage our partners and friends to pass it along to nonprofits interested in Earth observation technologies to enhance their work on climate change.

At Planet Action, we are looking forward to Cancun and remain optimistic that REDD+ will fulfill its promise and empower tropical countries as they adapt their land use to more sustainable forest management choices.

See you in Cancun!
