Spot Image has initiated Planet Action with the conviction that Earth Observation technologies can help fighting Climate Change. The company provides free satellite images from various sources and technical expertise to the projects.
ITU will contribute to projects selected by Planet Action, support regional communication and raise awareness about climate change and the role of earth observation technologies.
Planet Action was joined by ESRI from the beginning. The company donates software licences and technical expertise to the projects.
ITT donates software technologies to better monitor and analyze environmental changes.
NSPO donates data from satellite Formosat-2 the first and only high-resolution satellite with a daily revisit capability.
CRISP donates satellite imagery which is archived in Singapore, as well as technical expertise.
Digital Globe donates high resolution imagery from Quick Bird satellites.
On Marth 7th, 2008, UNESCO signed a partnership convention with Spot Image on Planet Action.
This provides a valuable support to Planet Action and on the other hand, it sustains the activities of UNESCO which relate to the protection of World Heritage sites and of Biosphere Reservations impacted by climate change.
UNESCO promotes Planet Action among its institutional partners (such as UN agencies,
national delegations…) and promotes the results of Planet Action in its programmes of
information and education about the environment and climate change.
ESA supports and presents Planet Action within many European institutions.
